“The tiny otolith, the cod's ear stone, contains physical evidence of who each individual fish is. How old it is, where it has been, its environment and climate. Like tree rings. This is the starting point for the opening of Bodø2024: who and what we are, who and what we want to be, and what memories we will create over the next year. This is also implemented in the floating stage that is central to the opening moment.”

Seven 4 ,5 to 6,5 meter long Cod Fishes were swimming through the harbour of Bodø on February the 3rd at 6:30 pm in 2024 as part of the Opening Ceremony of Bodø2024. As one of the three European Cultural capitals in 2024 Bodø was starting off strong with a very special show created and produced by Phase7 from Berlin.

Roscha A. Säidow as creative director of the fish team and her collegue Robert Frenzel as head of sculpturing designed and built the seven Cod fish Puppets together with their german Team (Lili Laube, Ronja Wunderlich, Kristin Soleil) in collaboaration with the Norwegian Team of the Nordland Theatre in the theatre Workshops in Mo I Rana (Norway). In Bodø then grew with the drivers of the RIB Boats and the sports man of the local youth handball team which were manipulating the puppets under the lead of Roscha A. Säidow.

This adventure in the polar region was an absolute bliss and sat perfectly between the two biggest storms the Polar Region was facing since years. Thanks a lot! Tusen takk for this special experience.
